We're off to Europe, and our border collie's coming too

THIS is a journey that began 18 months ago, though we’re only now leaving home. It started with the news of my husband’s impending redundancy and my impulsive suggestion that we should take a gap year.

He leapt at the idea, and we started looking at motorhomes. But real life has a habit of getting in the way of dreams, and now the gap year has been broken into bite-size chunks, as anyone middle-aged with family responsibilities will understand.

Still, we’ll grab what freedom we can, while we can, and who knows where it will lead us?

There will be many who’d love to do likewise. Without exception, our friends have said: “Good for you, go for it!” But as you'll see from the blog so far on the right, what we’ve learned already is how single-minded you have to be to make something happen.

By the way there are, as Princess Diana once said, three of us in this marriage. The third is Glen the border collie – and where we go, he goes. You’re welcome to join us on our adventures.
